Guest Info

Plan your trip to Twisted Timber.

A quick orientation to travel, lodging, and the day-to-day rhythm at camp.

Getting Here

Twisted Timber operates out of Caroline, Alberta — roughly 1 hour 45 minutes northwest of Calgary International Airport (YYC), or about 1 hour 30 minutes southwest of Red Deer Regional Airport (YQF). A rental vehicle is the easiest way in; we'll send detailed directions and a meeting point once your booking is confirmed.

Lodging & Meals

Multi-day trips are all-inclusive — lodging, hot breakfasts, packed or sit-down lunches, and home-cooked dinners are all included (alcohol excluded). Backcountry fly-fishing trips lodge in wall tents or remote cabins. Let us know dietary needs in advance and we'll accommodate where we can.

What to Bring

You'll need your own clothing layered for Alberta weather (it can range from mild to seriously cold depending on the season), broken-in boots, your hunting/fishing license, and any personal optics. Firearms, ammo, and fly gear can be brought or rented — confirm specifics in advance. Decoys, blinds, bait, and field equipment are provided.

Common Questions

FAQs.

What's the deposit and cancellation policy?

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your dates, with the balance due 30 days before arrival. Cancellation terms vary by season — please contact us directly so we can walk through the specifics for your booking.

Do I need an Alberta hunting or fishing license?

Yes. Non-residents hunting in Alberta need a WIN (Wildlife Identification Number) card and the appropriate licenses and tags for their species. We'll walk you through the process — Alberta licenses can be purchased online through the AlbertaRELM system. Anglers need a valid Alberta sportfishing license.

What's included in the price?

All trips are fully guided. Multi-day trips include lodging, meals (alcohol excluded), in-camp transportation, guide service, blinds/bait/decoys/equipment as applicable, and field care of game. Licenses, tags, gratuities, taxidermy, and travel to and from camp are not included.

Are gratuities expected?

Gratuities are not included and are always appreciated. A typical guide tip ranges from 10–20% of the trip cost, but we leave it to your discretion based on the experience.

Can non-hunting guests come along?

In most cases, yes — let us know in advance so we can plan lodging and meals. Non-hunter day rates may apply depending on the trip and season.

What if the weather is bad?

We hunt and fish through a wide range of conditions — it's Alberta. Trips proceed in most weather. In rare cases of dangerous conditions, we'll work with you to reschedule. Please dress for the season; we'll send a recommended gear list once you book.

How far in advance should I book?

Wolf hunts and cougar hunts fill earliest because of the limited season and small group sizes — book 6–12 months ahead when possible. Waterfowl peak weeks also fill fast. Coyote hunts and day-trip fly fishing can usually be booked within 30–60 days.

Do you accept non-resident cougar hunters?

The cougar hunt is currently offered to Alberta residents only, subject to provincial quota and regulations. If you're interested in pursuing other Alberta hunts as a non-resident, please reach out and we'll discuss options.

Can you handle taxidermy and trophy shipping?

We handle field care and trophy prep on-site. We can recommend trusted Alberta taxidermists and help coordinate shipping to your home — additional costs apply and we'll quote ahead of time.

Is there cell service or wifi at camp?

Cell service is limited in some of our hunting and fishing areas — expect to be off-grid for stretches. Camp typically has at least intermittent connectivity. We recommend letting friends and family know to expect quiet windows.
